Optus 4G Network on the Way in Australia

Optus has announced that they will be rolling out 4G mobile services next year as the trial of the 4g begins. Utilising an old analog frequency for testing the network, Optus Chief Executive Paul O'Sullivan announced that Optus expects to start offering the 4G services in Newcastle for April 2012, with Sydney, Melbourne and Perth coming later that year.

In addition to adding the 4G network, Optus has also announced an upgrade of the existing 3G network, including 500 new towers, upgrades at 2500 existing sites and reallocation of some of the older 2G network for the 3G services.

Optus has spent almost $2bn on upgrades and infrastructure improvements over the past 4 years and plans on spending another $500m on upgrades this financial year.
